A synthetic peptide from aa region 260-294 of human SMN1 conjugated to an immunogenic carrier protein was used as the antigen.

The SMN complex plays an essential role in spliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm and is required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. It may also play a role in the metabolism of snoRNPs. Required in motor neurons and proprioceptive neurons to ensure correct U12 intron splicing and proper levels of Tmem41b mRNA. Required for normal motor neuron development.
Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Nucleus › gem. Cytoplasmic granule. Cytoplasm › myofibril › sarcomere › Z line. Note: Under stress conditions colocalizes with Rpp20/Pop7 in punctuated cytoplasmic granules. Colocalizes with Actn at the Z-line of skeletal muscle.
Tissue specificity: Expressed in a wide variety of tissues. Expressed at high levels in brain, kidney and liver, moderate levels in skeletal and cardiac muscle, and low levels in fibroblasts and lymphocytes. Also seen at high levels in spinal cord. Present in osteoclasts and mononuclear cells (at protein level).

Maintain the lyophilised/reconstituted antibodies frozen at -20°C for long term storage and refrigerated at 2-8°C for a shorter term. When reconstituting, glycerol (1:1) may be added for an additional stability. Avoid freeze and thaw cycles.
