Target
FUNCTION: Communication between transverse-tubules and sarcoplasmic reticulum. Contraction of skeletal muscle is triggered by release of calcium ions from SR following depolarization of T-tubules. The calcium release channel is modulated by calcium ions, magnesium ions, ATP and calmodulin. The calcium release channel activity resides in the C-terminal region while the remaining part of the protein constitutes the 'foot' structure spanning the junctional gap between the SR and the T-tubule. It is possible that the foot structure interacts with the cytoplasmic region of the dihydropyridine receptor. Ryanodine is an alkaloid that binds to the Ca-release channel in junctional SR and modulates its activity.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Brain, skeletal muscle, placenta and possibly liver and kidney. In brain, highest levels are found in the cerebellum, hippocampus, caudate nucleus and amygdala, with lower levels in the corpus callosum, substantia nigra and thalamus.

Storage
Maintain the lyophilised/reconstituted antibodies frozen at -20°C for long term storage and refrigerated at 2-8°C for a shorter term. When reconstituting, glycerol (1:1) may be added for an additional stability. Avoid freeze and thaw cycles.
